Laurel Wreath Commode in Antique Gold
A Neoclassical commode in the Louis XVI manner, finished in an antiqued champagne gold that settles into the carving and lifts along every raised edge. The serpentine top overhangs a moulded frieze drawer, and below it a pair of cabinet doors carry a deeply carved laurel wreath tied with a ribbon bow, its streamers trailing out to either side. Fluted pilasters rise at the front corners, capped and footed with carved rosette blocks that sit above short tapered feet.
The wreath, bow and scrolling ribbons are carved by hand and applied in relief before the gilded finish is laid on and rubbed back to reveal the highlights. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it works as a substantial bedside piece with closed storage behind the doors, and reads equally well as a hall or drawing-room cabinet with a mirror hung above it.
