Design & Inspiration

Place these three tables in a salon and they command the corner they occupy — not through scale alone, but through the restless energy of their shaped outlines. The serpentine, cloud-form silhouette of each top moves in a way that straight-edged furniture simply cannot: the eye follows the contour, finds the gilt bronze mount at the leg head, travels down the slender cabriole leg, and arrives at the delicate cast foot. This is Napoleon III Rococo Revival at its most refined — the Second Empire's deliberate recalling of the 18th-century Rococo spirit, translated into the grander, more gilded language of the 1860s Parisian interior. The distinction from a true Louis XV piece is visible in the deeper, lacquered ground finish and the more elaborate gilt bronze appliqués that frame each leg junction — details that speak to Second Empire ambition rather than Rococo lightness.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Each table in this set of three is built from solid mahogany, finished to a deep mahogany lacquer that reflects light from its high-gloss surface like polished tortoiseshell. The shaped tops carry floral marquetry panels — flower sprays and scrolling stems worked into the veneer — their lighter tones reading against the dark ground with the precision of inlay rather than paint. Gilt bronze mounts are positioned at each leg capital and at the foot sabots: cast acanthus and scroll forms in bright gold that echo the carved vocabulary of the period. The slender cabriole legs taper to gilt bronze toe caps — a detail that protects the foot and announces the piece's pedigree in a single glance.

Dimensions & Details

Width: 82 cm / Depth: 43 cm (largest table). The set nests together compactly, allowing the three tables to read as a composed group or to be separated individually across the room. The graduated sizing follows the classic nesting table tradition: largest table leads, smallest slides beneath. The shaped aprons carry a gilt bronze gallery trim along their serpentine edges, unifying all three pieces as a matched set.

Handcrafted in Egypt

This set is handcrafted in Egypt by Brass & Wood artisans drawing on the European Second Empire cabinetmaking tradition. The marquetry is hand-laid, the gilt bronze mounts are individually applied, and the lacquer finish is built up in multiple coats to achieve its characteristic depth. Every piece is inspected before dispatch. Customization of finish, size, or brass tone is available on request.
