The circular medallion back — its rim traced in gilt, its crest finished with a foliate cartouche — pulls the eye the way a well-hung painting does: deliberately, without apology. This is a fauteuil faithfully reproduced in the tradition of Louis XVI Neoclassical design, the period when French court furniture shed the last of its Rococo curves and committed fully to classical order: symmetry, fluted columns, laurel and acanthus, everything measured and purposeful. The chair does not shout. It simply presides.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is carved from Romanian solid redwood (moisture content below 10%), then finished in an antique-white painted ground with gilding applied selectively to every carved ornament — the foliate cartouche at the medallion crest, the shell-and-scroll cartouche centred on the apron, the acanthus leaves at the arm posts and above each front leg, and the square rosette die blocks that cap all four fluted legs at top and foot. Each of the four straight tapered fluted legs carries gilt collars at both the capital and the base, the fluting running cleanly between them — a detail that rewards close inspection. The open padded arms terminate in a gentle outward scroll, and the piped boxed seat cushion is loose and fully removable. The jacquard fabric is woven with a flower-basket bouquet motif — white bouquets rising from wicker baskets on a blush-pink ground — the repeat scaled precisely to centre on the medallion back and the seat.
